Birth and Eductaion
Rick Riordan was born on June 5, 1964 and he was born in San Antonio, TX. He went to Alamo Heights High School in his hometown. He was school newspaper's editor and won third place for the UIL feature writing. He published a newspaper that made fun of his school and caused him a lot of trouble. he also talked about the football team that represented the school (because he made fun of the team, they threw eggs at his car). Rick attended the North Texas State because of their excellent music program (thought he wanted to be a guitar player) but he but changed his mind and transferred to the University of Texas in Austin. He graduated with a double major in English and History and was certified to teach english and history from UT San Antonio.
How Rick Riordan became influenced to write
The first book Rick Riordan read was the Lord of the Rings. Since Rick loved this book alot he read it during his free time. Rick Riordan was a big fan Greek and Norse mythology since he was in middle school. He read mostly fantasy and science fiction in high school. Once he was at college, he began having an interest in mysteries. Both of his parents were teachers. He started writing while he was in middle school. The first story he sent to publish was when he was 13 years old but it was not published. The first articles or stories he published were two short stories in the UT San Antonio literary magazine.

Rick Riordan lives with his wife and his two sons, Haley and Patrick. He has one dog which is a mixed Golden Labrador and two black cats. All of the books that he created were equally good, in his opinion, but he likes them for different reasons. His favorite characters in his books are Grover and Tyson because they are considered fun characters to write about. In his spare time he likes to read, swim, play guitar, and travel with his family. He plays games with his kids such as World of Warcraft for the Wii.
